Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for applying the pit plan
   • Access, interpret and apply pit plan documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Access and share with team members the geological and survey data required to complete the pit operations tasks
   • Access and share with team members the overall and short term objectives of the site pit plan
   • Prepare an implementation action plan, in consultation with team members, making best use of the available resources
   • Acquire and make available the necessary resources for the safe, effective and efficient conduct of pit operations tasks
   • Issue clear and timely instructions to team members and others involved
2. Monitor, adjust and report on execution of the pit plan
   • Ensure safe, effective and efficient execution of pit operations tasks
   • Monitor pit plan performance, and ensure achievement of planned outcomes
   • Initiate adjustments to work programs, in consultation with team members, considering variances and non-achievement of planned outcomes
   • Identify training needs of team members and prepare training plans
   • Complete and submit written reports
   • Submit reasoned recommendations to improve the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the pit plan

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient applying of the pit plan including:

selecting and assigning resources, plant and equipment

accessing and analysing survey and geological data

performing basic mathematical calculations

analysing hazards and risks, and implementing control measures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the applying of the pit plan that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

providing team leadership with clear and timely instruction and supervision to those involved in applying the pit plan

identifying the training needs of others and preparing training plans

demonstrates completion of applying pit plan that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

assessing and assigning appropriate extraction and associated techniques

monitoring, applying pit plan and make adjustments for variances and non-achievement

assessing outcomes to make reasoned recommendations and write reports

preparing training plans

recommending improvements to the pit plan

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of applying a pit plan through:

geological and survey data

organising skills, work planning techniques, and work monitoring methods

researching, analysing and applying the pit plan

applying problem solving skills to technical resources and infrastructure issues

writing reports to communicate procedural activity, breach or inadequacies to procedure and review process of the pit plan
